‘Day-to-day.’ UK offers no definitive word on Hagans’ status for Georgia game
Takeaways from Monday’s media session previewing Kentucky’s game at Georgia on Tuesday night:
▪ Assistant coach Joel Justus, who substituted for John Calipari, said Ashton Hagans’ status is “day-to-day.” Justus said that he expected Hagans to practice Monday, assuming UK’s medical staff did not advise Hagans to sit out.
▪ Keion Brooks said he has played against Georgia’s star freshman, Anthony Edwards, since the two were in the third or fourth grade. He said Edwards was “ultra-skilled.”
▪ If Hagans cannot play, that would “definitely be a big position for us to fill,” Immanuel Quickley said.
▪ Quickley warmed to the idea of being UK’s defensive stopper. He said his long arms — would fit a player 6-9 or 6-10, he said — can be an asset. Of course, Quickley led the defense that held Louisville’s Jordan Nwora to eight points.
▪ Nate Sestina has missed his two three-point shots since the 5-for-8 shooting starburst against Ohio State. But Justus said the threat of threes makes Sestina a valuable tool on offense. Defenses must account for him, thus creating space for shots and drives by guards. Justus likened Sestina to Derek Willis in that regard.
