A loss, a win, and a lot of whistles later, here’s where Kentucky stands in Top 25.

The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team lost 81-78 at South Carolina then won 73-66 at Arkansas last week.

The Wildcats’ up-and-down four-day stretch on the Southeastern Conference road included 102 foul calls, a buzzer-beating defeat and a John Calipari ejection.

In a week that saw 12 of the Associated Press’ Top 25 teams lose, where did that leave Kentucky?

The Wildcats were ranked No. 15 Monday, down five spots from last week. Kentucky is one place in front of No. 16 Auburn, which started the season 15-0 before losing twice last week and falling 12 positions from No. 4. Kentucky and Auburn are the only two SEC teams in this week’s Top 25.

This week, Kentucky (13-4 overall, 4-1 SEC) gets a home game Tuesday night against Georgia before a visit to Texas Tech on Saturday as part of the Big 12-SEC Challenge.

Louisville was one of the 13 Top 25 teams to make it through the week unscathed, scoring road wins at Pittsburgh in overtime and at then-No. 3 Duke. The Cardinals (15-3 overall, 6-1 ACC) were rewarded by being moved up five places in this week’s poll from No. 11 to No. 6.

Top 25 teams beaten last week were No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 Butler, No. 8 Oregon, No. 10 Kentucky, No. 12 West Virginia, No. 16 Wichita State, No. 17 Maryland, No. 19 Michigan, No. 20 Colorado, No. 21 Ohio State and No. 25 Creighton.

Baylor moved from No. 2 to No. 1 this week, taking the top spot from Gonzaga after the Bulldogs held it for four consecutive weeks. Baylor became the seventh different No. 1 team in the poll this season.

Behind Baylor and Gonzaga in this week’s Top 25 are Kansas, San Diego State and Florida State. Rounding out the top 10 are Louisville, Dayton, Duke, Villanova and Seton Hall.

The USA Today coaches poll released Monday has Kentucky at No. 14. Gonzaga is No. 1. Louisville is No. 5.

Women’s poll

The Kentucky women’s basketball team dropped one spot from No. 11 to No. 12 in this week’s AP rankings.

The Wildcats (15-3 overall, 4-2 SEC) defeated then-No. 12 Texas A&M, 76-54, last Thursday before falling at unranked LSU, 65-59, on Sunday.

This week, Kentucky has no games scheduled. The Wildcats return to the court Monday, Jan. 27, against Auburn in Memorial Coliseum.

Five other SEC teams made this week’s Top 25, led by No. 1 South Carolina. Joining the Gamecocks and UK in the rankings from the conference are No. 9 Mississippi State, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 21 Arkansas and No. 23 Tennessee.

Louisville (18-1 overall, 7-0 ACC) is ranked No. 5 this week.
