Perfect week gives Kentucky a boost in AP poll. See where they rank.
Kentucky regained some ground in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, released Monday afternoon, after sweeping a pair of SEC games last week. The Cats moved up three spots to 12th.
Meanwhile, the top nine remained the same and preseason No. 1 Michigan State, which lost to the Cats in the teams’ season opener, dropped out of the poll.
Baylor’s still No. 1 this week, followed in the top five by Gonzaga, Kansas, San Diego State and Louisville. The Bears are in the top spot for the fourth straight week.
UK (18-5, 8-2 SEC) started last week with an 80-72 win at home against Mississippi State. The Cats followed that up by defeating Tennessee 77-64 in Knoxville.
Kentucky, also ranked 12th in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, is tied atop the SEC standings with Auburn, now 11th, and LSU, which fell from 18th to 25th. All three are 8-2 in league play and have a two-game advantage on South Carolina, Mississippi State and Florida.
This week, the Cats travel to Vanderbilt on Tuesday and then host Mississippi on Saturday.
▪ Kentucky’s women’s team fell three spots to 18th after Sunday’s 103-85 loss at Arkansas, now ranked 23rd. The Cats (18-5, 7-4 SEC) had won their other matchup of the week, 66-62 at home against Alabama on Thursday.
UK only has one game on the schedule for this week: Sunday at home against No. 6. Mississippi State.
Louisville’s women’s team (21-3, 10-2 ACC) lost to Syracuse on Sunday and dropped from fifth to ninth.
