UK Men's Basketball

Is Nick Richards ‘the man’ for Kentucky basketball? Not quite, he says.

Takeaways from interviews previewing Kentucky’s game against Ole Miss on Saturday:

Nick Richards shied from the description as “the man” on UK’s team. He said UK has many good players. Tyrese Maxey can go off for 30 points at any time, Richards said.

UK Coach John Calipari saluted Nick Richards for not being delusional. Richards has an accurate self-image, the UK coach said.

Calipari said Ole Miss guard Breein Tyree is, if not unique among SEC players, one of a few who can score and make his teammates better.

Calipari said with UK essentially playing many minutes with three point guards, the team’s decision-making should be better than any team’s in the country.

Calipari said he supported Congress taking up college players receiving compensation for name, image and likeness. A system of 50 states setting up 50 sets of rules will not work, he said. Whatever reforms are adopted, the goal of creating a level playing field for all colleges is unattainable, he said.
