Kentucky freshman TyTy Washington was injured in the first half of the Wildcats’ game against North Carolina in the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Washington, who is projected as UK’s top NBA Draft pick for 2022, injured his right hand at some point during the first half. He scored seven points on 3-for-7 shooting and had three rebounds and one assist in 14 minutes of play before heading to the bench 1:34 before halftime.

The UK freshman did not start the second half, and CBS Sports reported that he was “available” to return if needed in the game. Washington was shown on the bench with tape on his hand, repeatedly flexing it. Kentucky led 40-29 at halftime, and the Cats’ lead was extended beyond 20 points in the second half.

With the Cats up 67-46 and 11:28 left in the game, Washington returned to the court for his first action of the second half. He missed his only jump shot (a three-point attempt) of the second half with the injured hand, but he did make a layup, dish out three assists and get two steals in six minutes of play before going to the bench for good with 5:36 remaining and the Cats leading by 31 points.

Kentucky defeated North Carolina, 98-69, for its largest victory margin in the series since 1950.

Washington came into the game averaging 13.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He is the team’s second-leading scorer, and he’s projected as a possible lottery pick in next year’s NBA Draft.
