Only family members will attend memorial service for Joe B. Hall

There will be a private memorial service and burial for Joe B. Hall, the former Kentucky basketball coach’s son said Tuesday. Only family members will attend because of concerns about a large gathering during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Coach Hall’s family is sincerely appreciative of all the love and support they’ve received from all the friends and all the Big Blue Nation,” Steve Hall said. “But we understand how many people would want to come and pay their respects.”

Hall died early last Saturday morning at age 93.

There was a moment of silence before Kentucky played Tennessee Saturday afternoon. In tribute to Hall, UK Coach John Calipari had the team play a 1-3-1 zone defense at the beginning of the game. Calipari also held a rolled up program, which was a signature component of Hall’s sideline persona.
