Kerr Kriisa, Jaxson Robinson are the only UK men’s basketball players on SEC injury report
When No. 19 Kentucky basketball closes the regular season at No. 15 Missouri on Saturday afternoon, UK coach Mark Pope won’t have any new injury concerns to worry about.
That’s because fifth-year guards Kerr Kriisa and Jaxson Robinson were the only two players listed for the Wildcats on Friday night’s SEC injury report ahead of the game between UK and Missouri.
That injury report was updated Saturday morning, a few hours before Kentucky and Missouri tip off at 12 p.m. in Columbia (11 a.m. local time).
Kriisa and Robinson remain the only injured Wildcats on the updated report. Both players have already been ruled out for the rest of the season by Pope. On Wednesday, Robinson underwent season-ending surgery on his right wrist. On Thursday, Pope said Kriisa “hasn’t reached the benchmarks that he needed to get to” following a fractured foot that Kriisa suffered on Dec. 7.
None of the other 10 UK scholarship players are on the injury report, which signals that they all should be good to go against the Tigers.
Kentucky has already clinched a top-eight seed for next week’s SEC Tournament in Nashville, which means the Cats will play on Thursday instead of Wednesday. But the outcome of Saturday’s regular season finale still carries plenty of seeding consequence for that event. UK can be anywhere between a 5 seed and an 8 seed for the SEC Tournament based on Saturday’s results around the league.
UK, 9-8 in league games, also needs to beat Missouri to secure an above .500 SEC campaign in Pope’s first season leading the Wildcats.
Missouri has no players listed on its injury report.
Head coach Dennis Gates and the Tigers have authored one of the biggest turnarounds in all of college basketball this season. Missouri went 0-19 against SEC opponents a season ago, but the Tigers are 10-7 in league play this season.
Missouri also had all of its players available for its most recent game, a 96-84 setback at NCAA Tournament bubble team Oklahoma on Wednesday night.
Following Saturday — a day in which all 16 SEC teams will be in action — the league’s collective focus will shift to the conference tournament.
The SEC Tournament will run March 12-16 in Nashville.
