Lexington car dealership gives away gas cards for UK fans after Mark Pope offers travel money
Kentucky basketball fans will have to act fast if they want to cash in on Mark Pope’s offer to pay gas money for fans who travel for the team’s opening-round NCAA Tournament game.
Paul Miller Ford, a UK Athletics partner, is giving away $100 gas cards to the first 100 fans who show up to the car dealership with a game ticket. The dealership, on East New Circle Road, began handing out gift cards 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Only one gas card will be available per household.
“Mark Pope wants our fans to be there and we want to support him and the team any way we can,” the dealership said in an Instagram post. “Providing gas to help our fans travel is just one of many ways we are proud to be your True Blue Dealer.”
Pope went viral Monday after offering gas money to fans who were willing to make the seven-hour drive to Milwaukee to support third-seeded Kentucky when it faces 14-seeded Troy in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Within minutes Pope received a bevy of emails from fans wanting to cash in on the offer.
“So grateful for my guys at Paul Miller Ford!!!” Pope said on X.
Kentucky’s game will tip off at 7:10 p.m. at Fiserv Forum (seating capacity of 17,341) in Milwaukee. The game can be watched on CBS.
