See statistics from Kentucky basketball’s 99-53 win over Eastern Illinois

Three numbers worth noting — and a full statistical report — from Kentucky men’s basketball’s 99-53 win against Eastern Illinois on Friday at Rupp Arena.

Numbers to know from Kentucky basketball’s win

Bruising and balance: Kentucky’s size and depth overwhelmed the Panthers most of the night. The Wildcats had a 54-16 edge in scoring in the paint and made 18 of 24 layups and all nine of their dunks. UK’s bench outscored EIU’s 44-23, led by 11 points each by Andrija Jelavic and Malachi Moreno.

Turnover troubles: Kentucky coach Mark Pope came into the season hoping to generate more turnovers — and therefore more possessions — with a team better built for ball pressure than his first. So far, it hasn’t clicked. Eastern Illinois committed fewer turnovers Friday (11) than did Kentucky (13) and outscored UK 16-13 in points off turnovers.

The Cats turned the ball over on 19.1% of their possessions to the Panthers’ 16.7%.

3-D: Eastern Illinois was 6-for-18 (33.3%) from 3-point range. That’s the highest percentage by a UK opponent this season. Even Louisville — red-hot in the early going — shot just 32.5% in handing UK its lone loss. Volume was the issue against the Cardinals, who made 13 of 40 3s. Through four games, Kentucky’s opponents are 31-for-116 on 3-point shots (26.7%).
