UK Men's Basketball

Notable numbers, full stats from Kentucky basketball’s 88-46 win over Loyola

Notable numbers and full stats from Kentucky men’s basketball’s 88-46 win against Loyola (Maryland) on Friday at Rupp Arena.

Get a TO, baby: Loyola committed 16 turnovers, a season high by a Kentucky opponent. UK forced 11 turnovers in the first half alone, which was only one short of its previous season-high 12 against Michigan State. By halftime, the Wildcats had tied a season high with eight steals. They finished the game with 11. Kentucky’s 24 points off turnovers surpassed its previous season high by seven.

Rock the block: Despite his impressive start, Kentucky freshman center Malachi Moreno hadn’t been much of a rim protector through the first five games of the season. Moreno had blocked two shots entering Friday night, one each against Valparaiso and Michigan State. But Moreno had four blocks against Loyola and altered or deterred shots he didn’t swat. He was part of the reason the Greyhounds were just 6-for-15 on layups and didn’t attempt a dunk.

3 up, 3 down: Kentucky’s inconsistent 3-point shooting showed its highs and lows in the same game Friday. The Wildcats hit 8 of 14 3-pointers in the first half — Collin Chandler made 3 of 4 before halftime — but went cold in the second. Trent Noah was 2-for-4 from long range in the second half. The rest of the Cats combined to go 0-for-9.
