Numbers to know, complete stats from UK basketball’s 104-54 win over Tennessee Tech
Complete stats and notable numbers from Kentucky basketball’s 104-54 win over Tennessee Tech on Friday at Rupp Arena.
Pope-ino’s Bombinos: Kentucky hit just 3 of 13 3-pointers in the first half, then blew the lid off the basket in the second. The Wildcats made 12 of 17 3-pointers after halftime – including a desperation fling from walk-on Walker Horn with 1:22 to play. That included a stretch of seven consecutive 3-point makes to close out the game. Kentucky hit its final 10 shots from the floor. The Cats’ 15 3-pointers were three more than they’d made in any game this season.
Freshman of the board: UK center Malachi Moreno set a new season (and career) high with 11 rebounds. Moreno rebounded 23.6% of all missed shots Friday when he was on the floor. For good measure, he blocked two shots, swiped a steal and made 4 of 5 field-goal attempts on a 13-point night. Moreno is shooting 58.7% from the field this season.
Blue balance: In analytics, usage indicates the number of possessions a player “uses” while on the court – so, the possessions that end when he takes a field-goal attempt or free-throw attempt or commits a turnover. Against Tennessee Tech, Kentucky had seven players with double-digit usage, meaning the Cats were spreading the wealth. One caveat: Horn led the team using 65.2% of possessions in his 3 minutes. Still, six players used between 10.3% (Jasper Johnson) and 18.7% (Otega Oweh) of the Cats’ possessions. See a full statistical report from the game.
