Notable numbers, full stats from Kentucky basketball’s 67-64 loss to North Carolina
Numbers of note and complete stats from Kentucky’s 67-64 loss to North Carolina on Tuesday night at Rupp Arena.
First-rate second chances: North Carolina dominated Kentucky on the glass, outrebounding the Wildcats 41-30. But the Tar Heels did most of that damage on the offensive boards. Carolina missed 38 shots and had 20 offensive rebounds. UK had eight offensive boards, and UNC had a 22-5 edge in paint points.
Way off from way out: Kentucky’s only made 3-pointer came from center Brandon Garrison, but as troubling as the one make was UK’s lack of attempts. The Cats got up only 13 3-pointers in the game, well short of the 30 to 35 that Mark Pope favors. For much of the game, the Cats made shots elsewhere, but everything dried up at the end. UK, which shot 50% from the floor in the first half, hit 34.8% in the second. Kentucky had a stretch of 13 straight misses late in the game and missed 14 of its final 16 shots. Six of those misses were layups.
Sharing is scaring: UK had eight assists on 23 made baskets, a rate of 34.7%. Last season, when the Wildcats had a more explosive and polished offense, they assisted on 56.9% of their baskets.
