UK's Wall named SEC Player of the Year

Southeastern Conference men's basketball coaches voted University of Kentucky freshman John Wall the league's Player of the Year on Tuesday.

The Wildcats came up big throughout the voting for post-season player awards, but Coach of the Year went to Kevin Stallings of Vanderbilt despite Kentucky's John Calipari winning the league in his inaugural season in the SEC.

DeMarcus Cousins joined Wall among the individual award winners, earning Freshman of the Year honors.

Three Cats were chosen for the All-SEC first team: Junior Patrick Patterson and freshmen Cousins and Wall.

Joining the Kentucky stars on the eight-player All-SEC first team were Jermaine Beal of Vanderbilt, Wayne Chism of Tennessee, Trey Thompkins of Georgia, Jarvis Varnado of Mississippi State and Devan Downey of South Carolina.

Patterson was also named to the SEC's All-Defensive team. Mississippi State's Varnado was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Eric Bledsoe, Cousins and Wall were named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
