The University of Kentucky announced Wednesday that it is participating in a ticket-exchange program that will allow basketball fans to buy and sell tickets for games in Rupp Arena.
The website, located at TicketExchange.com and operated by Ticketmaster, has partnered with UK to bring fans "the only safe and secure resale platform authorized by UK Athletics," the school's news release said.
TicketExchange is integrated with Kentucky's Ticketmaster software and uses barcode verification technology to ensure the authenticity of tickets.
"As the only official resale site, TicketExchange provides fans with reliable and convenient access to purchase tickets for games that otherwise may be sold out," the UK release said.
Ticket holders will be able to post and sell tickets at face value or above through TicketExchange.
Numerous tickets to Friday's season opener against Grand Canyon University were available on the site Wednesday evening, ranging in price from $35 in the upper arena to $314 closer to the court. Face value for Friday's game is $40.
Tickets for Kentucky's game against 10th-ranked Texas on Dec. 5 were being offered from the face value of $80 up to $2,874 per seat.
Tickets for the North Carolina game on Dec. 13 were being pitched as high as $5,225 apiece.
After accessing TicketExchange.com, fans may select a game to sell tickets or buy tickets. To sell tickets, season ticket holders will then be connected to My UK Account to manage their postings, while those without season tickets can post by entering barcode numbers.
First-time users will be prompted to set up a TicketExchange account, and may then set their ticket price and list an expiration date. An automatic email notification system will send updates on the listing.
Sellers will receive payment from TicketExchange in the form of direct deposit. Buyers will receive tickets with new unique barcodes via electronic delivery. Once sold, the original tickets immediately become void and will not be accepted for entry to Rupp Arena.
UK student and guest tickets are not valid to be sold or bought on the TicketExchange.
