Marques Bolden says he’s ‘definitely close’ to a college decision
Five-star basketball recruit Marques Bolden was a surprise, last-minute addition to the Ball Is Life All-American Game in California on Saturday night.
Bolden, who is still trying to decide between UK and Duke, was featured in a short interview during the game. Obviously, the first question was about the timetable for his college choice.
“Yeah, I’m definitely close,” Bolden said. “I’ll make that decision real soon.”
Bolden originally planned to announce a college decision before April 17.
The 6-foot-10 center from DeSoto, Texas said the relationship he has with the coaching staffs and “how comfortable I feel at their university” will be the biggest factors in that decision. Bolden has already taken official visits to UK and Duke. He hosted John Calipari for an in-home visit last month, and four Duke assistants visited with him and and his family a couple of weeks after that.
In the latest curveball in Bolden’s recruitment, the three Duke reporters from the 247Sports website who changed their predictions from the Blue Devils to the Wildcats on Friday reversed course Saturday and switched those picks again.
As a result, Duke now holds a 59 percent majority on Bolden’s Crystal Ball page.
247Sports ranks Bolden as the No. 1 center and No. 18 overall prospect in the class of 2016.
