University of Kentucky basketball player Derek Willis was arrested Saturday in Boone County and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Willis, 20, was booked by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, according to records on the Boone County Jail website. He was released on $50 bond.

A UK spokeswoman said Sunday night that the school is aware of the situation, is still gathering more information and will hold any further comment until it is deemed necessary.

Willis, a 6-foot-9 senior to be, played in 32 games for the Wildcats last season, starting 11. He averaged 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds and is the team’s leading returning three-point shooter, having made 53 last season.
