Kentucky women’s basketball suspends its second-leading scorer for DePaul game
Kentucky women’s basketball will be without a significant presence at both ends of the court for its Thursday night game in Rupp Arena against DePaul.
Redshirt junior forward Dre’una Edwards — who averages 18.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for UK this season — will be serving a one-game suspension and miss the DePaul game due to “not upholding the academic standards of the program.”
UK announced Edwards’ suspension just one hour before the 7 p.m. tip-off against the Blue Demons.
In its announcement, UK said there will be no further comment on the disciplinary action against Edwards.
Edwards is second in scoring on the UK team and leads the Wildcats in rebounding, in addition to being an energetic presence at both ends of the court who has shown the ability to battle on the glass and lead the fast break in UK’s versatile starting lineup.
Edwards had started all seven games this season for Kentucky, which means that the Wildcats will have to use their third different starting lineup of the season on Thursday night.
Edwards is expected to return to the UK team for Sunday’s rivalry game at No. 7 Louisville.
