For the second time this season, the Kentucky women’s basketball team has suspended its second-leading scorer for a critical home game.

Redshirt junior forward Dre’una Edwards will not play for UK on Thursday night against Florida in a home Southeastern Conference contest while serving a team-imposed suspension related to a disciplinary matter.

According to UK, the disciplinary matter is being handled internally.

UK announced the suspension one hour before the game against the Gators.

Edwards is averaging nearly 16 points per game. Edwards is also UK’s leading rebounder with 7.7 rebounds per contest.

Edwards has started all 12 games she’s played for the Wildcats this season.

Edwards was also suspended by Elzy for UK’s December non-conference home game against DePaul at Rupp Arena, a game Kentucky lost 94-85.

The one-game suspension Edwards served against DePaul was for not upholding the academic standards of the UK program.
