Kentucky women’s basketball dominates in the paint to improve to 2-0
The Kentucky women’s basketball team made quick work of USC Upstate on Saturday evening in Rupp Arena, improving to 2-0 with an 82-54 victory.
The Wildcats got out to a strong start, outscoring the Spartans 25-12 in the first quarter, and kept their foot on the gas. For the second game in the row, UK went with a starting five of Brooklynn Miles, Saniah Tyler, Amiya Jenkins, Maddie Scherr and Ajae Petty.
UK shot 48 percent (32-of-66) from the field, and just 11 percent (2-of-18) from three-point range. Once again, the Wildcats drove their offense through the front court, this time finishing with 58 points in the paint.
Five Wildcats scored in double figures. Petty paced the Wildcats with 19 points and nine rebounds. Eniya Russell recorded 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal. Scherr finished with 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, one block and three steals. Miles and Zennia Thomas scored 10 points each.
Dakota Reeves led the Spartans (0-3) with 18 points and two rebounds. Rebekah Gordon scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Scherr was fouled on a driving layup with just over eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter, and limped off the court following a made free throw for a successful three-point play. She did not return to the game.
