After one season with Kentucky, a former Miss Basketball is in the transfer portal
Junior Brooklynn Miles, Kentucky women’s basketball’s go-to point guard this season, will enter the transfer portal.
Miles announced Friday morning via social media that, though she’s loved “coming back home,” she’ll be looking for another opportunity elsewhere.
“Dear BBN,” Miles wrote in the post. “Coming back home and doing what I love in front of the people and community I love has been a dream come true! Thank you to Coach Elzy and her assistants for taking a chance on me and showing me what it feels like to be invested in. My teammates mean the world to me and the bonds I have created at Kentucky are unmatched. I love you Big Blue Nation, but with that being said, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal.”
Miles, a Franklin County High School graduate and the 2021 Miss Kentucky Basketball honoree, transferred to UK after two seasons at Tennessee. Miles received limited opportunities in Knoxville during her sophomore campaign after averaging 19.8 minutes per game her freshman season, but fit perfectly in former UK head coach Kyra Elzy’s system as a defensive-minded point guard. Miles averaged 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals in 29.8 minutes per contest in 32 games played. She made 27 starts.
Miles’ announcement comes the morning after former Virginia Tech All-America point guard Georgia Amoore committed to UK, following new Kentucky head coach Kenny Brooks to Lexington. Fellow former Hokie Clara Strack, a 6-foot-5 freshman center, and 6-3 Northeast Florida State College sophomore Amelia Hassett, a former Virginia Tech commit, each announced their commitments to Kentucky on Thursday as well.
Miles joins three other Kentucky players from the 2023-24 roster in publicly declaring their intentions to enter the transfer portal. Freshman guard Jordy Griggs posted a confirmation of her portal entry late Thursday night. Leading scorer Ajae Petty and freshman forward Janaé Walker revealed their intentions to transfer in the days following Elzy’s firing.
Only seniors Nyah Leveretter, Eniya Russell and Maddie Scherr have yet to publicly issue any statement either way, though none of them are listed on the Wildcats’ 2024-25 roster online. Each senior, including Petty, retains an additional year of eligibility granted by the NCAA following the COVID-19 pandemic. Sophomores Amiya Jenkins, Cassidy Rowe and Saniah Tyler remain on the online roster and have yet to issue any statement.
