How the SEC’s women’s basketball coaches regard Kentucky and its players entering 2024-25
Georgia Amoore’s preseason accolades continued to grow Thursday when the Southeastern Conference announced its coaches’ preseason selections for all-league honors and predicted its order of finish for the 2024-25 season.
Previously named to the SEC media preseason first team, the Kentucky point guard was again granted first-team honors in the coaches’ voting. This announcement comes one day after Amoore barely missed the Associated Press Preseason All-America women’s basketball team, receiving the seventh-most votes.
In four seasons at Virginia Tech, Amoore averaged 14.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 0.8 steals per game. Amoore finished her career with the Hokies as the program’s all-time assists leader (856), as well as second on the Hokies’ all-time leaderboard for 3-pointers made (293). She averaged 36.1% from the three-point line. She is expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 WNBA draft.
Amoore is joined on the SEC coaches’ preseason first team by Texas’ Madison Booker, LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow, Alabama’s Sarah Ashlee Barker, Ole Miss’ Madison Scott, Oklahoma’s Raegan Beers and South Carolina’s Te-Hina Paopao.
Booker was voted by coaches as the SEC Women’s Basketball Preseason Player of the Year. Johnson and Morrow, plus Oklahoma’s Skylar Vann and South Carolina’s MiLaysia Fulwiley also received Player of the Year votes.
Just like in the media poll, the Wildcats were chosen to finish eighth in the conference standings. In a league that received eight bids in the 2024 NCAA Tournament — and is expected to send a similar number, if not more, in 2025, given the additions of tournament teams Oklahoma and Texas — expectations remain hopeful for the Wildcats in their first season under head coach Kenny Brooks.
The Wildcats recently checked in at No. 22 in the Associated Press preseason top 25, and begin their season on Nov. 4 at Memorial Coliseum against South Carolina-Upstate at 5 p.m.
Predicted order of finish: 1. South Carolina, 2. Texas, 3. LSU, 4. Oklahoma, 5. Alabama, 6. Ole Miss, 7. Tennessee, 8. Kentucky, 9. Auburn, 10. Mississippi State, 11. Texas A&M, 12. Vanderbilt, 13. Georgia, 14. Florida, 15. Missouri, 16. Arkansas.
