Georgia Amoore scores 2,000th career point and No. 16 Kentucky rolls over Purdue
The 16th-ranked Kentucky women’s basketball team earned its first true road win of the season on Saturday night with an 82-52 victory over Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The Wildcats struggled early on to generate any offensive production, posting just eight first-quarter points to the Boilermakers’ 12 and opening at a deficit. Though the Boilermakers’ early attempts to disrupt UK’s offense proved successful, once Georgia Amoore took over, the Wildcats eased out to a comfortable lead. After shooting a meager 28.6% (4-for-14) from the field in the first period, Kentucky improved its field goal percentage to 45% (9-for-20), including three 3-pointers, and ended the first half on a 19-6 scoring run to establish a commanding lead.
Kentucky played a balanced third quarter, with five Wildcats hitting shots along the way to a 20-10 quarter that included a dominant 13-0 run. UK continued to overwhelm Purdue throughout the fourth quarter, outscoring the Boilermakers 30-10 to secure a 30-point margin of victory.
Amelia Hassett finished with a game-high 22 points and added nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks. She was joined in double figures by Amoore, who scored her 2,000th career point in the second quarter, along with Dazia Lawrence, Clara Strack and Teonni Key.
