UK women’s basketball picks up former C-USA Freshman of the Year in portal
Another day, another former All-Conference USA selection announces her transfer to Kentucky women’s basketball.
Asia Boone, a 2024-25 All-CUSA second-team honoree, declared for the Wildcats via social media on Thursday after two seasons at Liberty University.
Boone, who was named the CUSA Freshman of the Year after the 2023-24 season, followed up her double-figure freshman campaign with a slight increase in both scoring and efficiency.
This past season with the Flames, the 5-foot-8 Boone averaged 10.2 points on 40.3% shooting from the field — after recording 10.1 points on 36.3% shooting as a freshman — plus 3.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.8 steals per contest. She shot 36.9% from 3-point range for the season on a team-high 168 attempts, and recorded a season-high 19 points, plus six rebounds, three assists and one steal in Liberty’s March 1 victory against Kennesaw State.
The San Diego native made 67 starts in 67 appearances for the Flames, and helped Liberty to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018 this season. Coincidentally, the Flames traveled to Lexington to take on Kentucky in the first round before falling 79-78 in a near-complete, furious comeback attempt. Against the Wildcats, Boone recorded one point and one rebound in approximately five minutes.
Boone is the second transfer portal commitment for Kenny Brooks and the Wildcats this offseason, and the second from Conference USA. Three-year Western Kentucky guard and Sacred Heart (Louisville) alumna Josie Gilvin announced her decision to transfer to Kentucky on April 4.
Kentucky’s roster increases to 10 players
Boone is the second transfer to pick UK this offseason, joining Gilvin. Kentucky will also welcome 6-3 wing Kaelyn Carroll, the No. 15 national prospect in the class of 2025 and the program’s first McDonald’s All-American signee since 2020, to campus this summer.
The 2025-26 Kentucky roster, assembled for Brooks’ second season in charge, now stands at 10 players.
That group includes seven returnees in 6-2 guard Lexi Blue, 5-10 guard Gabby Brooks, 6-3 forward Amelia Hassett, 6-4 forward Teonni Key, 6-1 guard Jordan Obi, 6-1 guard Dominika Paurová and 6-5 center Clara Strack.
After Kentucky’s season-ending loss to Kansas State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, two players from 2024-25 had used up their remaining eligibility — Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence — and four others announced their departures from the program — Tanah Becker, Cassidy Rowe (retired), Clara Silva (TCU) and Saniah Tyler (Missouri).
