Former Kentucky women’s basketball reserve Tanah Becker picks transfer destination

Tanah Becker has committed to George Washington.

The former Kentucky women’s basketball guard announced her transfer decision via an Instagram story on Tuesday night with a three-photo layout featuring herself in a Revolutionaries uniform.

The Herald-Leader confirmed the 6-foot-1 guard’s entry to the transfer portal on March 27 amid reports that she would be leaving Lexington after one season with the Wildcats.

George Washington made a coaching change upon the conclusion of the 2024-25 season (13-18 overall, 5-13 Atlantic 10) after former head coach Caroline McCombs stepped down in late February. Instead of hiring interim head coach and former assistant Doug Novak, the school announced the hiring of Ganiyat Adeduntan — a former GW assistant who returns after four seasons as head coach of Colgate — in March.

Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, Becker first committed to UK under former head coach Kyra Elzy, and she opted to sign with the Wildcats after the coaching change. As a freshman playing for Kenny Brooks, Becker averaged 1.8 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.5 steals in 4.0 minutes in six games.

She last played in a game for UK on Dec. 9, when the Wildcats defeated Queens (N.C.) 87-45. Against the Royals, Becker recorded zero points, one rebound, one steal and two fouls in under five minutes of playing time. Becker’s career highs in points scored and minutes played occurred on Nov. 4 in the team’s season opener against the Spartans of USC Upstate, against which she posted five points on 2-for-2 shooting, including one 3-pointer, in about seven minutes on the floor.

Becker, an alum of AAU club Kia Nurse Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit, graduated from Lincoln Prep in 2023 prior to taking a prep year in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy, the alma mater of former South Carolina and current Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso, and ex-Cats Treasure Hunt and Jazmine Massengill.

With Becker’s announcement, each of the three Kentucky women’s basketball players to have entered the transfer portal upon the conclusion of the 2024-25 season have declared for a new school — freshman center Clara Silva to TCU and junior guard Saniah Tyler to Missouri.

Brooks and his coaching staff currently have 11 players listed on the 2025-26 roster, including returning starters Clara Strack, Amelia Hassett and Teonni Key, and transfer guards Asia Boone (Liberty), Josie Gilvin (Western Kentucky) and Tonie Morgan (Georgia Tech).
