Kentucky will have to endure yet another season without Dominika Paurová.

Kentucky women’s basketball announced Thursday that Paurová, a 6-foot-1 guard who transferred to Kentucky ahead of the 2024-25 campaign after a successful freshman season at Oregon State, tore an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and is out indefinitely.

This marks the second consecutive season Paurová will sit out due to an ACL tear. She sustained her first during the 2024 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket while playing with Czechia’s U20 team in a July 14 game against Iceland. She was cleared to shoot jump shots in February of this year and was making progress in rehabilitation prior to this injury. It was not immediately known if it’s the same knee.

Paurová, who averaged 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 16.5 minutes per game during her freshman season with Oregon State, was slated to be a depth piece for the Wildcats, who return 46.7% of their scoring and 70.9% of their rebounding after a strong first season under coach Kenny Brooks.

UK, ranked No. 24 in preseason Associated Press Top 25, returns reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year Clara Strack, as well as fellow starters Teonni Key and Amelia Hassett. Fans will also get to see the UK debut of guard Jordan Obi, who also sat out last season due to lower-leg injury. The Wildcats also welcome a trio of All-Conference transfers in Asia Boone (Liberty), Josie Gilvin (Western Kentucky) and Tonie Morgan (Georgia Tech), plus five-star freshman Kaelyn Carroll.

The Wildcats tip off the 2025-26 season with a Nov. 3 matchup against Morehead State at Memorial Coliseum.
