The second-ever SEC regular season slate for Kenny Brooks and No. 16 Kentucky has officially come to an end with Sunday’s 60-56 home loss to No. 3 South Carolina.

Kentucky (21-9) clinched a No. 9 seed after going 8-8 in SEC play this season, and has the chance to further plead its case to the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee in this week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament. The Cats are currently on the outside looking in for hosting privileges in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

UK will face No. 16 seed Arkansas in Game 1 of this year’s tournament on 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The Razorbacks (12-19, 1-15 SEC), in their first season under new head coach Kelsi Musick, won their first and only game of league play Sunday afternoon. Arkansas beat Auburn 70-41 in Fayetteville and snapped what was a 16-game losing streak.

The Cats will play on the first day of the league tournament for the first time since 2024, when former head coach Kyra Elzy led the No. 12 seed UK to a first-round victory over No. 13 Georgia before falling in the second round to No. 5 seed Tennessee. Last season, Brooks coached the Cats to a No. 4 overall seed in the conference. Kentucky lost in its first contest of the tournament, a quarterfinal disappointment to Oklahoma, and went home to receive a No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
