Video: Week off gave Kentucky women’s basketball a push in the right direction
The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team took full advantage of a late-season week off to erase the memories of a recent three-game losing streak and now have a two-game winning streak.
The Wildcats (17-6 overall, 6-6 Southeastern Conference) thumped the Commodores 71-55 in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday. Coach Matthew Mitchell said the team made good use of its weeklong stretch of practice since last Sunday’s win at home over LSU to establish its defensive cohesion.
Four games remain for UK before the SEC Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. Sunday’s win at Vandy kept the Wildcats in position for a run at one of the top four seeds, which don’t have to play until the third day of the five-day tournament. And it also moved them further from the possibility of playing on the opening Wednesday, the indignity facing the bottom four seeds.
Sixteenth-ranked Kentucky returns to action Thursday night at No. 14 Mississippi State.
