University of Kentucky quarterback Stephen Johnson has said that he overcame his battle with Tourette syndrome as a child through prayer and support from his family.

When he encounters a child facing the same struggle now, Johnson understands that it helps to share his story.

“I didn’t have anyone to talk to about it other than my parents,” Johnson told SEC Nation for a video feature posted Saturday on SECSports.com. The feature focused on Johnson’s friendship with 10-year-old Samuel Doster of Louisville, who is fighting the same fight Johnson once did.

“I wanted to be there for him and let him know everything is going to be OK,” Johnson explained.
