The art of the flop: Gamecocks’ QB gave it a shot

Perhaps lost in Kentucky’s upset over South Carolina on Saturday was the epic flop attempt by Gamecocks quarterback Jake Bentley in the fourth quarter.

Soccer fans know this maneuver well. Two players enter in to some close-quarters trash talking or, sometimes, they’re each just going about the game and then one goes down as if the other party has struck them with a bolt of lightning.

To their credit, the Southeastern Conference officials spotted the tomfoolery immediately and one official seemed to dismiss Bentley’s protestations with a laugh.

But the incident does bring to mind some all-time flops in sports history. Here is a sample:
