NCAA allows $550 per player in bowl gifts. See the prizes UK players got to pick.

When you make a bowl game as a college football player, life is good. And a prize package from the bowl you’re attending can make it a little bit sweeter.

On Wednesday, Kentucky football’s Twitter account @UKFootball posted a video of its players “shopping” in the gift suite provided by the Franklin American Mortgage Company Music City Bowl.

While players cannot be compensated monetarily for playing in the bowl, the NCAA allows gifts totaling up to $550 per person, according to SportsBusinessDaily.com, which lists prize packs for all the college bowls.

Every bowl offers some kind of gift package, not unlike the prizes you might see given presenters at the Academy Awards, but probably a little less lavish.

For the Music City Bowl, players can choose from a number of products in a “gift suite” in addition to receiving a Fossil Watch from the bowl. SportsBusinessDaily says most bowls personalize watches with their logos and up to 125 people per team can receive the gift package, but each university can buy more.

In the video, players marvel at the choices, smile, laugh, and jump up and down like kids at Christmas.

“So, I can get three things right from here?” one player asks one of the staff people in the room.

“Yes, sir,” the staffer replied.

“Aw, yeah.”

Items in the room included: a Trek bicycle, a Sharp Roku 43-inch HDTV, an Xbox, a Sony PS4, a Sony Stereo turntable, a Sony amplifier, a Yeti Roadie cooler, Harman wireless speakers, Beats wireless headphones, sunglasses, a Samsung laptop computer, a recliner with cup holder and even a blender and a Shark Robot vacuum cleaner.

Kentucky will take on Northwestern in the Music City Bowl in Nashville on Dec. 29 at 4:30 p.m. EST.
