A look at what shorthanded Kentucky plans to do at left tackle.
Kentucky will be short at left tackle for “several weeks,” Coach Mark Stoops said at Monday’s news conference to preview Texas A&M.
Naasir Watkins, who has been sharing time at left tackle with E.J. Price, injured his knee in Saturday’s game against South Carolina and is not listed on the UK depth chart for this week.
True freshman Darian Kinnard is listed as the backup at both the right and left tackle spots.
Price is listed as the starter at left tackle with Kinnard behind him. Kinnard previously had been listed as the backup right tackle behind George Asafo-Adjei.
Left tackle was supposed to be a position of strength this season for Kentucky with regular starter Landon Young returning, but the former Lafayette star injured his left knee in a practice the week before the start of the season.
Stoops wasn’t specific about Watkins’ injury beyond saying the player will be out for several weeks.
After the win over the Gamecocks, Stoops said the Watkins injury was not significant and reiterated Monday that it was what he thought it was after the game and hasn’t changed the prognosis.
