Kentucky came up short on Saturday. How far did it fall in the polls?

As expected, a 34-17 loss to Georgia in the Southeastern Conference division title game on Saturday knocked Kentucky down — but only a little bit — in the latest round of national polls.

The new Associated Press poll dropped the Cats from No. 11 a week ago, their highest rating since 2007, to No. 12 this week. UK had the same ranking in the Amway coaches’ poll.

A new College Football Playoff Committee ranking will be announced on Tuesday night. Kentucky was No. 9 in that ranking determined by the group that decides who plays in the semifinals and in the prestigious New Year’s Six bowls.

Bowl projections around the country have UK playing in that bowl grouping still as the second-best team in the conference’s East Division.

UK (7-2, 5-2) will next head to Tennessee, where it will take on a Tennessee team that is 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the league this season under new coach Jeremy Pruitt.

The Cats and the Vols are the SEC’s two lowest-scoring offenses this season, with Tennessee sitting at the bottom at 24.3 points per game and UK at just 24.7 points.

Tennessee is averaging 333 yards per game in total offense and UK’s at 356.3 yards per game.

The Volunteers are the league’s worst rushing offense, averaging 127.7 yards per game. They are coming off a 14-3 victory over Charlotte on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

Kentucky snapped a five-game losing streak to the Vols last season at Kroger Field, topping them 29-26.

The Cats haven’t won in Knoxville since 1984 when they beat Tennessee 17-12. That also was the last victory before the Volunteers went on a run of UK domination that went on for 26 straight games.

There are six teams from the SEC in the latest Associated Press poll: No. 1 Alabama, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 LSU, No. 12 Kentucky, No. 18 Mississippi State and No. 19 Florida. Auburn and Texas A&M received votes in the latest poll as well.
