When it comes to college football ticket sales, UK a clear winner in Kentucky

Kentucky is overwhelmingly blue, at least when it comes to college football ticket sales.

According to sales data from ticket marketplace Vivid Seats collected since 2012, UK is the runaway leader across the commonwealth. The Wildcats have sold the most tickets of any college football team in 370 of the state’s 770 zip codes. Louisville checks in at No. 2 with its ownership of 100 zip codes.

The two programs face each other this weekend at Kroger Field in the 26th annual bout for the Governor’s Cup. U of L leads the modern-era series, 15-10, but UK is up 16-15 overall.

There’s a tight battle for the No. 3 spot among zip codes — Tennessee edges Vanderbilt, 30-29, while Western Kentucky rounds out the top five with 15.

Twelve college football programs own a single zip code in Kentucky. In alphabetical order (along with the county in which the zip code exists), they are: Auburn (Owen County), Harvard (Breathitt County), Hawaii (Ohio County), Miami of Ohio (Marshall County), Murray State (Ballard County), Nebraska (Hardin County), Northwestern (Marion County), Purdue (Gallatin County), Texas A&M (Monroe County), UCLA (Morgan County), USC (Ohio County) and Virginia Tech (Grant County).

You can use the map below, provided by Vivid Seats, to see with whom every other zip code has aligned. Several zip codes aren’t represented at all because sales data was too limited; those areas are filled out in white.
