Kentucky’s newest football recruit visited the school only once before committing to the Wildcats on Wednesday.

Chauncey Magwood hadn’t been to Lexington since his freshman year, but he told Rivals’ Chad Simmons that inside linebackers coach Jon Sumrall was critical to getting him to buy into what the program had to offer.

“We FaceTime every week, he has been on me real hard about three or four months, and before he really got on me, I did not even have Kentucky on my list,” Magwood told the recruiting service. “He made things right with me and Kentucky and Coach Sumrall was the key in my decision.”

Rivals rates Magwood — an athlete who’s likely to play wide receiver at the next level — as a three-star prospect and the 44th best player in the talent-rich state of Georgia. He’s also considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports, which has him pegged as the No. 80 wide receiver in the nation in its composite ranking. He picked Kentucky from a final six also consisting of Florida State, Louisville, Nebraska, Arkansas and South Carolina.

Magwood is the fourth commitment of UK’s 2021 class, and the second to commit since social-distancing measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 were put into effect nationwide. He joined Somerset quarterback Kaiya Sheron and two Ohio linemen, Paul Rodriguez and David Wohlabaugh, as the Cats’ only commitments this cycle.

Devon Williams, a linebacker and UK’s first commitment in the class, flipped his commitment to Minnesota last week.
