University of Kentucky football player Chris Oats hospitalized

University of Kentucky football player Chris Oats has been hospitalized.

Oats, a junior linebacker, was hospitalized in his hometown of Cincinnati, Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio reported Friday evening. The school confirmed that Oats has been hospitalized with a “medical issue” that is not related to COVID-19, but it could not disclose where he is being treated.

“Chris is expected to move to a physical rehabilitation center in the near future,” a UK spokesperson said. “The family requests that their privacy be respected during this time.”

Oats has played in 25 of 26 possible games for UK since arriving as a freshman in 2018. He started in two games last season — at Mississippi State and versus Missouri at Kroger Field — and was expected to be one of the Wildcats’ starting inside linebackers this fall. As a sophomore he recorded 46 total tackles, fifth most on the team.

He played prep football for Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati and was considered a four-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals. His other offers out of high school included Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan.

Oats has not taken a redshirt during his time with the Wildcats.
