Lexington freshman among 15 UK track stars who earn All-America distinction

Fifteen University of Kentucky track-and-field athletes earned a total of 20 All-America indoor selections from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday.

Kentucky’s 20 selections tied Texas A&M for fifth most in the country. Arkansas led the nation with 31 honorees while LSU ranked second with 29. Oregon (25) and Florida (22) were third and fourth, respectively.

Abby Steiner, a sophomore from Dublin, Ohio, earned three All-America distinctions — in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter run and the 4-by-400 relay — which matched the most by any individual in the country.

A trio of freshmen — Langston Jackson, Lance Lang and Megan Moss — each earned two All-America selections. UK’s women, in total, earned 11 All-America honors while the men earned nine.

Jackson was a multi-sport standout for Henry Clay High School in Lexington. Early his debut season with the Wildcats, he owned the fastest time in the 200. He claimed an All-America selection in that event as well as the 60 meters.

“As talented as he is, this is just the beginning,” UK head coach Lonnie Greene said of Jackson this year. “Langston is one of those individuals who’s got the gift. There are kids who are talented and there are kids who can run, and then there are ones who’ve just got the gift. Langston is one of those.”

Juniors Makenli Forrest (weight throw) and Gabriela Leon (pole vault) gave Louisville two selections on the women’s side.

The final list of USTFCCCA All-Americans was decided based on the post-medical scratches start list for the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships. The athletes listed on the start list for their respective events were awarded All-America recognition, while relays were decided by the four athletes who produced the time which secured a spot at the national championships. No “First Team,” “Second Team” or “Honorable Mention” designations were made.
