Former UK standout C.J. Conrad returning to football team as a grad assistant

Former University of Kentucky tight end C.J. Conrad has joined the football program as a graduate assistant.

Conrad, who started 42 games for the Wildcats from 2015 to 2018, is working on a master’s degree in sports leadership, a UK spokesperson told the Herald-Leader. Conrad will serve in an off-the-field role.

“I’m glad to be back #BBN” Conrad tweeted later in the day.

The New York Giants signed Conrad to an NFL summer camp deal after he went undrafted in 2019. He was released by the Giants after two weeks on their practice squad last season. The team signed him to a reserve/futures deal in January.

As a Wildcat, Conrad recorded 80 catches for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns, including a game-winning catch as time expired in a come-from-behind victory at Missouri during UK’s 10-3 campaign in 2018. His 12 TD receptions are second most in school history for a tight end behind James Whalen (13), and he is No. 28 all-time in career receiving yards.
