Eight Kentuckians, 10 UK commits named to Sports Illustrated All-American watch list
A host of in-state standouts and University of Kentucky commits have been named to the watch list for Sports Illustrated’s 2020 All-American football team.
SI released its honorees last week. Altogether, eight Kentucky seniors, four of whom are committed to UK as part of the 2021 recruiting class, were recognized in addition to six other UK commitments. The complete watch list encompasses 1,000 players from across the country and will be trimmed down a couple of times throughout the season before a First Team (25 players), Second Team (25 players) and group of honorable mentions are unveiled in December.
Frederick Douglass star Jager Burton, the state’s top-ranked player according to both 247Sports and Rivals and one of the nation’s top-ranked offensive linemen, headlines the Kentuckians honored. He as of Tuesday was uncommitted and has shared a top-seven list consisting of Kentucky, Ohio State, Oregon, Clemson, Alabama, Texas and Penn State. He is a four-star prospect, is considered a top-100 player in his class and has accepted an invitation to the 2021 All-American Bowl game.
Four in-state players who’ve committed to Kentucky — wide receiver Dekel Crowdus (Frederick Douglass), safety Jordan Lovett (North Hardin), quarterback Kaiya Sheron (Somerset) and running back La’Vell Wright (North Hardin) — were named to the list.
Rounding out the Kentuckians named to the watch list were: Jantzen Dunn, a South Warren star who has committed to Ohio State; Jordan Dingle, a four-star tight end from Bowling Green who is considering Kentucky; and Jack Dingle, an outside linebacker at Trinity who has committed to Cincinnati.
A total of 10 UK commits were named to the watch list. Joining the four Kentuckians were: wide receiver Christian Lewis (Alabama), wide receiver Chauncey Magwood (Georgia), offensive tackle Paul Rodriguez (Ohio), offensive tackle David Wohlabaugh (Ohio), defensive end Kahlil Saunders (Alabama) and defensive end Martez Thrower (Georgia).
Only three current UK commits weren’t named to the watch list. Two were ineligible — linebacker Joko Willis, a junior-college player, and Australian punter Wilson Berry — and the other is Armond Scott, a three-star wide receiver out of Ohio.
Louisville, whose 2021 recruiting class currently is ranked No. 13 overall according to Rivals, had 13 of its 21 total commits named to the watch list.
