UK goes to Auburn for its first season opener against an SEC team in 60 years
Kentucky’s 2020 football season will start at Auburn on Sept. 26.
UK and the other 13 teams across the Southeastern Conference learned their week one opponents during an announcement made during The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday. The SEC at 7 p.m. Monday will unveil the complete week-by-week football schedule for all 14 schools on the SEC Network.
Game times and TV schedules for all games are expected in the coming weeks.
Kentucky originally was supposed to open its 2020 season against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 3. That game is one of four against non-conference opponents — the others were Louisville, Kent State and Eastern Illinois — that won’t be played this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kentucky in its history has opened the season 11 times against an SEC opponent, and is 2-9 in those games. The Wildcats haven’t played an SEC team in their opener since 1960, a 23-13 loss to then-league member Georgia Tech. Their last win against an SEC opponent in a season opener occurred in 1946, when they defeated Mississippi, 20-6.
The other week one games revealed were: Alabama at Missouri; Georgia at Arkansas; Florida at Mississippi; Mississippi State at LSU; Tennessee at South Carolina; and Vanderbilt at Texas A&M.
