It didn’t take long for the Kentucky football program to acquire a new wide receiver from the transfer portal following the decommitment of another.

Tayvion Robinson, a former four-star recruit who started 29 games at Virginia Tech over the last three seasons, committed to UK on Wednesday following an official visit over the weekend. Robinson will have up to two years of eligibility with the Wildcats due to the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver.

Robinson entered the transfer portal on Dec. 2. In his three seasons, he accumulated 1,555 yards and nine touchdowns for the Hokies, who finished 6-6 in the 2021 season and were invited to the Pinstripe Bowl. He’s one of several Virginia Tech players who has opted out of the bowl game or entered the transfer portal.

In his only postseason appearance with the Hokies, Robinson played against UK. As a freshman, he had two receptions for 18 yards and rushed for 5 yards on his lone carry in a 37-30 UK win in the 2019 Belk Bowl.

Former Syracuse receiver Taj Harris, who had announced a commitment to the Wildcats in November, de-committed on Dec. 6. Kentucky was expected to possibly add at least one more receiver from the portal in addition to him, but how that shakes out could depend on the NFL Draft decision of Wan’Dale Robinson, who could declare as an early entrant.
