Kiyaunta Goodwin down to UK and Michigan State. He’s announcing at 5 p.m.
Note: Kiyaunta Goodwin signed with Kentucky later on Friday.
Kentucky hasn’t lost Kiyaunta Goodwin, but it seems to have a fight on its hands.
Goodwin, a top-five offensive tackle in the country who committed to UK in April, during a ceremony streamed by Stadium on Wednesday announced that he’s unsure when he’ll sign a letter of intent, but that he’s down to two finalists: UK and Michigan State.
Steve Wiltfong, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, reported later Wednesday morning that Goodwin will announce his final decision at 3:30 p.m. during a live stream broadcast by CBS Sports. Goodwin a couple hours after that shared that he would be pushing that decision to 5 p.m.
A 6-foot-8, 330-pound prospect and a Louisville native, UK was the first school to offer Goodwin when he was in seventh grade. He’s rated as the No. 2 offensive tackle in the nation by 247Sports and as the No. 4 prospect at the position by Rivals. The former tabs him as a five-star prospect while Rivals has him just outside of that rating as its 30th overall recruit.
The Spartans emerged from a group of other contenders — Alabama and Texas A&M among them — who put a recruiting press on Goodwin throughout the season and leading up to signing day.
Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow originally had a press conference scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, but that was moved to 1 p.m. Thursday due to “late announcements.”
