Lafayette football’s Wills earns scholarship offer from Michigan
Michigan extended a scholarship offer to Lafayette High School football star Jedrick Wills on Tuesday, becoming the latest major college program to reach out to the local recruit.
Wills — a 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman — is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 15 overall prospect and No. 3 offensive tackle in the class of 2017. He is also UK’s top recruiting target in the 2017 cycle.
Michigan is the 18th college to offer Wills a scholarship, joining a list that already included Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Louisiana State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee and several more top programs.
UK hosted Wills for its junior day weekend earlier this month, and the local recruit also visited Commonwealth Stadium for several games during the 2015 season. He’s a high school teammate of UK signee Landon Young and Walker Wood, who is the Cats’ only in-state commitment so far for 2017.
There is no timetable for Wills’ college decision.
Keeping in touch
In other local football recruiting news, UK clearly remains interested in Belfry offensive lineman Cole Bentley, the class of 2017 prospect who impressed at last month’s U.S. Army Combine in Texas and has since received a three-star ranking from Rivals.com.
Bentley, who was in Lexington for the Wildcats’ junior day earlier this month, was recently visited by UK offensive line coach John Schlarman. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound guard has picked up scholarship offers from Marshall and Charlotte over the past couple of weeks.
On Tuesday, he posted a picture of several mailers he received from UK, which will continue to evaluate him for a possible scholarship offer.
