UK football recruiting notes: Lafayette’s Wills chosen for national all-star game
Lafayette offensive lineman Jedrick Wills has been selected to play in next year’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl, one of the biggest postseason high school football events in the country.
Wills — a 6-foot-5 offensive tackle — is regarded as one of the top prospects nationally in the class of 2017, and his scholarship offers include Kentucky, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and several other programs.
The Army All-American Bowl is played every January in San Antonio before a national television audience and features the best high school football players from across the country.
Three Kentuckians — Kash Daniel, Drake Jackson and Landon Young — participated in this year’s game. All three of those players signed with UK.
Cats in good shape?
247Sports national analyst JC Shurburtt logged a Crystal Ball pick in favor of Kentucky on Jedrick Wills’ recruiting page Wednesday.
Wills visited UK for most of the Wildcats’ home games in 2015 and attended the program’s junior day event earlier this month. Two high school teammates — Landon Young and Walker Wood — are already committed to UK, and Young signed with the Cats for the class of 2016.
Rivals.com ranks Wills as the No. 16 overall prospect in the class of 2017.
New position rankings
Four of UK’s class of 2017 commitments — and two in-state players on the Wildcats’ recruiting radar — are included the new Rivals.com position rankings, which were released Thursday.
James Hudson is the highest-ranking UK commitment in the position rankings, coming in as the No. 7 strongside defensive end in the class of 2017. Earlier this week, Rivals ranked Hudson as the No. 211 overall prospect in the group.
Newly minted four-star quarterback Mac Jones is the No. 15 pro-style QB in the class of 2017, according to Rivals.com. Jones — a Jacksonville, Fla., native — was UK’s first commitment for next year.
The new position rankings also include UK commitments Michael Warren (No. 33 running back) and Russ Yeast (No. 50 athlete).
Lafayette standout Jedrick Wills is ranked as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the class of 2017. Wills is strongly considering UK.
Belfry star Cole Bentley — a standout on the recent camp circuit — is now ranked as the No. 25 offensive guard in the class. UK is monitoring his recruitment for a possible scholarship offer. Bentley already has offers from Air Force, Marshall, Toledo, Miami (Ohio) and Charlotte.
