What’s that they say about the internet?
Once you post something there, it stays there forever?
The University of Southern Mississippi football program posted an interview to YouTube with new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson on the Fourth of July.
Dawson, who was fired last December after one season as Kentucky’s offensive coordinator, offered one specific quote in the video that riled Kentucky fans on Thursday after Kentucky Sports Radio unearthed the interview.
“I’ve been around a lot of quarterbacks,” Dawson told Southern Miss director of broadcasting John Cox. “Typically if I have a good one, I’m a pretty good coach and typically if I don’t then I’m not a very good coach.”
Patrick Towles, who started 10 of Kentucky’s games at quarterback during a 5-7 season in 2016, appeared to respond to Dawson’s comment on Twitter, simply posting an emoji of a frowny face about an hour after KSR’s post. Towles’ post later was removed from Twitter. Towles transferred after the season and will play his senior year at Boston College.
Dawson will have an immediate opportunity to back up his talk. Southern Miss, led by 2015 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year Nick Mullens at QB, visits Kentucky in the season opener at Commonwealth Stadium on Sept. 3.
