Ex-Kentucky QB Towles beaten in debut for Boston College

Former University of Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles had an up-and-down day in his debut performance for his new school.

Towles, who transferred after last season to play his senior year at Boston College, ran for a touchdown but committed two turnovers as the Eagles fell to Georgia Tech 17-14 on Saturday.

The game kicked off at 7:30 a.m. EDT in Dublin, Ireland.

Towles started and played the entire way at quarterback in the Eagles’ 2016 season opener. He completed 11 of 17 pass attempts for 137 yards. He ran nine times for 27 yards, includinig a 6-yard touchdown run that put Boston College in front 14-7 with 11:46 left in the game.

Towles led Boston College on a nine-play drive to open the game but it ended when the ex-Cat was intercepted by Georgia Tech’s Corey Griffin on third and 1 at the Yellow Jackets’ 45-yard line.

Late in the second quarter, Towles fumbled when sacked by Georgia Tech’s Antonio Simmons, and Kyle Cerge-Henderson recovered for the Yellow Jackets.

Towles decided to move on to Boston College after losing his starting job to Drew Barker at the end of last season at Kentucky.
