UK Basketball Recruiting

New Next Cats basketball recruiting page dedicated to all of Kentucky’s top targets

College basketball coaches are still banned by the NCAA from in-person recruiting, but top high school prospects continue to get plenty of attention, and Kentucky’s own target list is growing by the week.

The ongoing recruiting hiatus due to COVID-19 means coaches have been relegated to phone calls, video conferences, and watching game film as they gather intel on potential targets. Even without the constant travel that would normally be taking place this year, Kentucky’s coaches are still keeping in touch with previous players of interest and homing in on some other new talents.

To keep track of UK’s ever-changing list of prospective recruits, the Herald-Leader’s Next Cats website has been updated with a master page dedicated to the players known to be on Kentucky’s radar. The new page, which launched this week, contains bio information, the latest rankings, video highlights, and links to expert predictions for more than two dozen UK targets.

This page will be updated constantly as a permanent addition to the Next Cats website, with new player profiles being added as future Kentucky targets emerge.

For now, the page will concentrate on the 2021 and 2022 classes — players who will be high school seniors and juniors this fall — but it will be updated soon with bios for top prospects in the 2023 class, a group led by No. 1-ranked recruit DJ Wagner, the son of Dajuan Wagner — one of John Calipari’s star college players — and grandson of Louisville great Milt Wagner, who was part of Calipari’s staff at Memphis.

The Next Cats player pages for the five uncommitted players with UK scholarship offers — Patrick Baldwin Jr., Paolo Banchero, Kennedy Chandler, Jaden Hardy and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield — have also been updated, and other recruits will get their own player pages as they receive confirmed offers from Kentucky.

Stay tuned to the Next Cats website for all of the latest news on Kentucky’s top recruits.
