Star Kentucky prep basketball player makes college commitment. He’s going to the SEC.
One of the best college basketball prospects from the commonwealth has made his college commitment.
And he’ll get the chance to go up against the Kentucky Wildcats.
Trent Noah, a shooting guard from Harlan County High School, pledged on Sunday afternoon to play at South Carolina for head coach Lamont Paris.
He selected the Gamecocks, who offered Noah a scholarship in July, from a final group of schools that also included Butler, Dayton, Saint Louis, Seton Hall, Stanford, Richmond and Western Kentucky.
Noah made his college choice in a live streamed announcement on YouTube.
Paris is about to begin his second season in charge of the Gamecocks: Last season, South Carolina was 11-21 overall and 4-14 in conference games, and exited the SEC Tournament in the first round.
But that largely forgettable debut season for Paris did feature a stunning win at Kentucky in January.
Forward GG Jackson — a hometown, five-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting group — went one-and-done at South Carolina last season and was selected in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft.
Noah is the second player to commit to South Carolina in the 2024 recruiting class, along with power forward Okku Federiko of Finland.
Noah is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as a three-star recruit and as the No. 145 player nationally in the 2024 recruiting class.
Among class of 2024 players ranked by the 247Sports Composite, Noah is the second-best player based in the state of Kentucky.
He lags only behind Travis Perry, the high-scoring guard from Lyon County who earlier this year passed “King” Kelly Coleman to become the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school boys basketball history.
Last season for Harlan County, Noah averaged more than 26 points per game as the Black Bears lost in the 13th Region tournament.
He plays travel basketball on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with Midwest Basketball Club.
