One of Kentucky basketball’s top recruits in the 2026 class is still considering coming to play for the Wildcats.
On Tuesday night, guard Ikenna Alozie announced the top eight schools in his college recruitment. UK made the cut for Alozie, a powerful 6-foot-2 prospect who is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as a five-star recruit in the 2026 recruiting group.
Kentucky was joined by Alabama, Arizona, Gonzaga, Houston, Kansas, Louisville and Washington in Alozie’s group of finalists. According to On3, Alozie has completed an official visit to Washington and multiple unofficial visits to Arizona.
Alozie — who plays prep basketball at Dream City Christian in Arizona — was born in Nigeria before moving to the United States during his early teenage years.
He’s been a recruiting target for head coach Mark Pope and the Wildcats for some time now.
Alozie earned a Kentucky scholarship offer in October 2024. This came after Pope visited Alozie in September 2024 in Arizona.
Alozie is one of 14 class of 2026 recruits who currently hold a Kentucky scholarship offer. He’s ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.
“They are obviously a great program,” Alozie said of Kentucky while at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in June in Rock Hill, South Carolina. “Coach Mark Pope has always stayed in touch in with me. Keep talking. We have a very good relationship.”
Pope and several members of the Kentucky basketball coaching staff watched Alozie at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, which occurred during a two-day NCAA evaluation period for college coaches. Pope was joined by associate head coach Alvin Brooks III and assistant coaches Cody Fueger and Jason Hart at the event.
“(Pope) told me they’re always getting in the lane and just pushing,” Alozie added about his Kentucky recruitment. “... I feel like that’s just how my play style is. Just get up and down.”
While at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, Alozie said there are seven schools that he’d like to visit as part of his college recruitment. Alozie also said that he could make his college commitment during the middle of his senior season at Dream City Christian.
