Junior college cornerback Michael Mathis is UK’s 24th commitment for 2014.

Junior college defensive back Michael Mathis committed to the University of Kentucky on Tuesday night.

Mathis — a 6-foot-2 prospect from Crosby, Texas — is going into his second season with Kilgore College in Texas. That’s the same school that tight end Steven Borden played for before signing with Kentucky last winter.

Mathis told VarsityPreps.com in June that Kentucky was recruiting him to play cornerback. At that point, UK was the only major school that had offered him a scholarship. Rivals.com ranks Mathis as a two-star prospect and is the only major service that has assigned him a star rating.

The Wildcats now have 24 commitments for the Class of 2014, including four junior college players.

Rivals.com ranks UK’s class at No. 7 in the nation and No. 4 in the SEC.
