Ohio wide receiver commits to Kentucky

Ohio wide receiver commits to Cats

Wide receiver Alex Stump announced his commitment to Kentucky on Saturday night.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound receiver from Lakewood, Ohio, is the Cats' seventh commitment for the class of 2015, and their first at one of the offensive skill positions.

Stump does not yet have a star ranking from most of the major recruiting services, but he had a breakout performance at a high-profile Rivals camp in Ohio last weekend. He was named the No. 1 overall offensive player at that camp, which included several top prospects in the region.

Kentucky got in on the ground floor of his recruitment.

Tight ends coach Vince Marrow — Stump's primary recruiter — built a great relationship with him months ago, and the Cats offered him a scholarship early in the process.

"Once you get a big program like Kentucky — SEC football — to believe in you, it definitely had a huge impact on me," Stump told the Herald-Leader. "They saw me early and took a chance on me before the camp and everything that happened. That was huge."
